A shared link grants access based on who has the URL, not on any property of the file itself. The document lives on the platform's servers; the link is the key. The owner can restrict access to specific emails, revoke the link, or set an expiry — but all of that control lives at the platform level. If a recipient downloads the file, platform permissions no longer apply to that copy.

Can someone bypass a cloud sharing restriction?
If a recipient downloads the file, the platform's access controls no longer apply to that copy. The file exists independently of the platform. A shared link controls who can access the file through the cloud service — it doesn't protect the file after it's been downloaded or saved elsewhere.
Is a PDF password genuinely secure?
